Carnegie Learning K-8 Content Academies
Carnegie Learning offers workshops specifically designed to help address the following objectives:
- Strengthen K-8 teachers' content knowledge in mathematics and
- Impact K-8 teachers' beliefs and attitudes about teaching mathematics.
Fostering a Learning By Doing® environment is one of the hallmarks of our K-8 Math Content Academies. The benefits of incorporating this principle into our workshop design, includes:
- Participants are active learners in cohort groups;
- Teachers discover, explore, reason, share and reflect;
- Workshop activities relate to the realities of teaching in a K-8 classroom;
- Teachers' attitudes about teaching mathematic are impacted;
- Workshops are designed for specific grade level bands (K-3, 4-5, 6-8); and
- Participants receive a Cognitive Tutor® software license to reinforce their mathematical knowledge.
Each content academy listed below involves both classroom and lab work for teachers. The content academies range from 3-5 days in length. A list of the content academies follows:
- Developing Mathematical Understanding
- Developing Algebraic Thinking
- Early Fractions Concepts
- Number Properties and Integers
- Connecting Decimals and Percents to Fractions
- Proportional Reasoning and Linear Relationships
